Infra Red Handset FAQ's
What type of signal does the HAL infra-red handset and control system use?
The HAL infra-red handset and system uses RC5 infra-red code.
What other infra-red systems use this code, Can other infra-red handsets be used to operate HAL?
Most infra-red handsets use the RC5 code. These codes can be 'learnt' off the HAL infra-red remote handset by many 'one-for-all' infra-red remote handsets.
Additionally 'intelligent' remote controls such as the Philips Pronto and Logitech Harmony ranges of touch screen remotes can also be used. For example the Philips Pronto 'talks' to the wireless router - the router 'talks' to the interface, the interface 'talks' to the magic eye and sends out multiple IR streams previously learnt from original handsets. Macros can also be created so that a push from one button in the intelligent remote creates multiple events across several products.
What is RS232?
RS232 is a commonly used computer protocol or language used by many control systems.
Can RS232 be used with HAL?
Yes, There is an interface board available if required. This would typically be used if you wished to operate the HAL system using third party control equipment such as a PC or touch screen control wired directly into the HAL control panel.
